When I first got my real estate license, my broker told me something I never forgot: decades of success in sales and sales management wouldn't necessarily translate into success in real estate because real estate was a marketing business. The agents who marketed themselves best were the ones who got the business.
He was partially right. But he was missing something important.
Over time, I paid attention to the agents who appeared to be the most successful. They had impressive marketing, strong personal brands, and plenty of listings. But I noticed something that made me question the conventional wisdom: many of those listings were sitting on the market for months without selling.
So I started looking beyond appearances. I paid attention to which properties were actually selling and which agents were consistently getting deals across the finish line.
What I found was interesting. The agents who were best at marketing themselves weren't necessarily the ones closing the most business. Some of the most productive agents were busy doing what matters most: getting transactions done, even if it was one at a time.
That distinction resonated with me because I spent decades in sales, and I know that looking successful and producing results are two very different things.
There is certainly value in a strong personal brand, and I respect the agents who build relationships through networking, country clubs, golf, and other social circles. But that isn't where I choose to spend my time. Between working and taking care of my dog, I’d rather spend what time I have left focusing on the strategy, analysis, negotiation, and follow-through to not only get the deal, but to make sure it gets done.
My priority isn't to look like the busiest agent in the room. It's to be the agent who gets results, transaction after transaction.
Selling real estate requires more than attractive marketing. It requires understanding the market, pricing a property strategically, identifying opportunities, negotiating effectively, and knowing how to navigate the obstacles that can prevent a transaction from closing.
Even though all agents will say this, not all agents will effectively practice this. I make sure this is where my time and attention is spent.
If you have a property you want--or need--to sell, I will devote the time, energy, and professional skill necessary to pursue that goal. You deserve an agent who is focused not just on winning your listing, but on helping you achieve a successful sale.
Because at the end of the day, a listing isn't a result--the closing is.
